Boy in Love - Reunion Show
Formed sometime in the late 80’s, Boy In Love [Scott McHenry/vox, Fredrick Lindsay/drums, Food Fortunata/guitar and N. Apes Dicks/bass] is one of the many punk bands to come out of the Kent State/Akron scene. It has been nearly 20 years since they regularly performed out but they’re currently working on a new record titled ‘My Brown House’ and Friday night they put on a...

Pat's Fest 2012
The mostly annual summer shindig at Pat’s In The Flats rocked the industrial section of Tremont this past Saturday that included 10 bands: [in order of appearance] Prisoners, Filmstrip, Ragers, Tinko, Founding Fathers, Uno Lady, Little Bighorn, Wooly Bullies, Obnox and All Dinosaurs, that finished the night with an exclamation point.
When Pat’s Fest works, it is one of...

Introducing: The HOMeOwners
This first show by The HOMeOwners on Saturday [July 14, 2012] @ The 71st Door was a lot of fun despite Mavis reminding me that it’s their first gig and there will probably be some kinks to work out. The only gliches I noticed was that the girls mics were being smothered by the music and Dave having to multitask the board while providing the lead vocals/guitar. Those are minor problems...

Fizzy Lifting Drink + Exploding Lies
Fizzy Lifting Drink whose name came from the “Charlie and the Choclate Factory” movie, has been around for less than three months and when I seen them this past Friday night [July 13, 2012] at Pat’s, they sounded as they have been together for years despite their youth. Definitely a band I want to see again.
I missed Bill Fox that opened this show but I did get to stick...

Cloud Nothings + Herzog
The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Summer Concert Series kicked off Wednesday with a couple young Cleveland bands that have been getting some attention outside the Ohio. Many have already heard of Cloud Nothings whose bottle rocket rise has been pretty amazing. With an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel, a European Tour and Pitchfork, Rolling Stone high praise, one only wonders how high they can fly.

England In 1819, Ocean Versus Daughter + 9 Volt...
I was able to hoof it down to Pat’s In The Flats after the Rock Hall show to catch this gig. England In 1819 is a band from Baton Rouge La via England + Cincy. They are one of the few bands I’ve seen that has a Father/Son combo on their roster. I was only able to catch the tail-end of the opener Ocean Versus Daughter but I liked what I saw heard. 9 Volt were the locals on the bill...

The Black Eye 2012 →
July 7, 2012 The first show at The Black Eye since November of 2004, was this past Saturday and I seen some folks that I have not seen in ages. The show was scheduled for 9pm but in the BlackEye paradigm the first band [Crave] didn’t get on until a couple hours after that.
This Moment In Black History, We March & Gallo Negro followed after Crave and TMIBH ended the sweaty evening with...

Return To The Black Eye
The Black Eye had its heyday during the early ought’s even though there has been shows at the space on East 71st since then [DBA: 71st door].
Tonight there will be a reunion of sorts with This Moment In Black History, We March, Gallo Negro & Crave, all performing at the odd [early] time of 9pm.
For nostalgia sake, I’ve linked some photos from ‘back-then’ [including...
